Giveaway: Anna’s Medallion
This month’s historical fiction giveaway, Anna’s Medallion, features a World War II tale of love, war, and sacrifice in a concentration camp. (Based on a true story.)
Two lovers ripped away from their families by the Nazis must survive slave labor and concentration camps in Germany during WWII to find each other again.
In Nazi-occupied Poland, Anna, a freedom fighter, and Filip, a poor farmhand, are torn from their families and transported to Germany. Enslaved on two nearby farms, they endure brutal labor, relentless abuse, and violent reprisals—yet in the midst of suffering, they find an undeniable love. When they revolt against their depraved masters, they are banished to two separate concentration camps—Buchenwald and Ravensbrück. Bound only by their love and a promise medallion, they must survive unspeakable cruelty at the hands of sadistic SS officers who make the camps a living nightmare. Will Anna and Filip escape the apocalyptic Germany as the war rages around them, or will their love be doomed forever?
Perfect for the fans of Heather Morris’ The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale, Kelly Rimmer’s The Things We Cannot Say, and Thomas Keneally’s Schindler’s List.

Here’s an interview with indie author Kris Draven:
Tell us a little bit about yourself…
I’m originally from Poland and immigrated with my family to the United States when I was 17 as political refugees, escaping the communist regime that imprisoned my father. I started writing when I was still in Poland, but stopped for many years as I learned English to a level sufficient for writing novels. I have been writing regularly for about five years now, but Anna’s Medallion is the first fiction novel I’ve published.
What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write your book?
Anna’s Medallion is the true story of my grandparents’ survival and love in Nazi Germany as slave laborers and concentration camp prisoners. While my grandparents didn’t talk about their story much, I found it fascinating and promised them and my children that I would share it with the world one day. I think that people must remember the story of millions of slave laborers that the Nazis employed as they fought wars around the world. It’s a lesson we and our children must remember so the story never repeats itself.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters, what would they be?
“I Will Survive,” by Gloria Gaynor, and “Don’t Stop Believin’,” by Journey.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
For both reading and writing, I love historical fiction and thrillers. But I would also love to publish a children’s book one day.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
“The Woman in Suite 11,” by Ruth Ware, “The Way of Kings,” by Brandon Sanderson, “Red Rising,” by Pierce Brown, “To Condemn a Witch,” by Lisa Traugott.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The first one.
Do you have any quirky writing habits (lucky mugs, etc.?)
Not really, but people laugh at the giant size of my laptop. I need to have room for my hands and zoom in to see better.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up,” – Thomas Edison
