A Night of Witchcraft and Wise Women at Pflugerville Library
Last night, the quiet halls of the Pflugerville Library were filled with the whisper of the past as we delved into the historical and enchanting world of my novel, To Rescue a Witch.
The event, titled “Spells, Secrets and History,” drew a curious crowd, eager to uncover the mysteries woven through the pages of history and fiction alike.
The evening began with the story of Lilias Addie, a real-life accused witch from Scotland, explored a brief history of witches, wizards and wise women, gave behind-the-scenes stories about the research and writing of To Rescue a Witch and ended with a mock witch trial.
Together, we navigated the landscapes of colonial Williamsburg and the misty highlands of Scotland, exploring how these settings play a crucial role in the narrative. Putting everything in context, I read from a pivotal chapter from the point of view of Fiona, the wise woman, set on the night of Samhain (Halloween).
Our journey didn’t stop at the borders of the book. The highlight of the night was a lively witch trial where participants got to experience what it was like to be accused of witchcraft, the types of evidence that would have been used against them, and the ‘rough interrogation’ methods employed at the time to make people confess.
It ended with a book signing of not only To Rescue a Witch, but my children’s book Mind Your Manners Minnie Monster.
I’m thrilled to announce that this was just the beginning. Throughout October, I’ll be hosting more “Spells, Secrets and History” events at various locations.
